Easter in Prague

Spring has been absolutely wonderful so far here. Easter Sunday, we had some friends over for a big, American potluck. It was wonderful.

Similarly to the Christmas Market, in spring we have the Easter Market, which I must say is much more enjoyable (probably because the weather isn't painfully cold). So we got out to enjoy the warm weather and tulips.

See that spiral looking thing hanging at the top of the picture? It's a model of a Czech (and also Hungarian and Slovak) pastry called trdelnik or trdlo. It's basically a pastry rolled in sugar and nuts and cooked over an open fire.

And this is just random but I thought it was hilarious.

One Sunday Morning...

...we went to see the President! This morning, President Obama gave his first public speech in Europe as President and we were there to see it. We braved the crowds (luckily the weather was nice) and actually ended up getting a semi-VIP treatment because of a very special lady we had with us. You see, our friends' two-month old got the attention of the special services volunteers and we ended up getting sit about 100 yards from the stage where the President spoke (along with other mommies, pregos and special needs folks) - the only area with seats.

The American flag flying over the palace at Prague Castle.

Waiting for the President. Enjoying some Czech folk music.

The stage is just behind us (you can see it right over my head).

The President and First Lady.

Showing our colors.

The President beginning his speech.

Matt watching the President and Greg photographing.

The Obamas making their exit.

If you're watching the news tonight, keep an eye out for us. Facing the stage, we're on the far right about 100 yards back. Actually, almost straight back from where the Obamas exited the stage.
